  • Paging all Soccer Nuts

As the month of June began, a soccer fan (me) sent two messages to the guys in charge of BFNSports.

The first one became this blog.

The second one was my predictions for USMNT for the 10 week span.

I predicted 4 points in World Cup Qualifying. We got 3 so far, and we've got a tough game ahead in Mexico City.
I predicted 1 point, no playoffs in the Confederations Cup. We got 3, and then beat Spain to make the Confed Cup Finals.
I predicted 7 points, win it all in the Gold Cup. We got 7, but fell to Mexico in the Gold Cup Finals.

The US surprised the world (and me) by squeaking into the Confederation Cup playoffs (3-way tie in the group, and we won on tie breakers - goals scored). Then they shocked the world by beating top-ranked Spain. (Big cheers) They had our hopes up against the world's best - Brazil. (BRA 3-2 USA, 0-2 at the half)

The US put up their B squad for the Gold Cup. A bunch of players who have very few caps (appearances for the national team.) They had a respectable run. Except for getting embarrassed in the last 45 minutes at Giants Stadium (MEX 5-0 USA, 0-0 at the half)

In the World Cup Qualifying, I figured the US might pull a draw in one of the two tough road games. (Personally, I thought they'd get a draw against Costa Rica, but that didn't happen.) So I wait for Wednesday night's game. A draw for the Americans would be huge. A win would be mind-blowing. But I'm not putting any money on them.
