  • US Men's Soccer Schedule

US Soccer is back and it's going to be kickin' like crazy this summer. The team's players have been keeping busy with league play, from MLS to the Premier League to other top-tier leagues...but are coming up on ten weeks that will put national pride on the line, against the world, against their fellow countries in the CONCACAF (North/Central America & Caribbean), and against several of the teams fighting for 3½ World Cup Berths.

So far, the Men's National Team has played four games this year. One friendly (a US win in Los Angeles), and three World Cup qualifiers (two wins in Columbus and Nashville, and a respectable draw in El Salvador).

The last of those games was on April 1, the 3-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago.

Two months later. The US team is back together. And their calendar is full. Between 9 and 14 matches in the next ten weeks. Travel to islands, mountainous cities, and a tournament 8,000 miles away.

    JUNE:
    * 2 World Cup Qualifiers (one in San Jose, Costa Rica, where the USA has never won or tied in 6 tries; the other in Chicago)

    Trip to South Africa

    * 3 to 5 games in Confederation Cup (once-per-four-year invitational tournament featuring the winners of each continent's tournament, defending WC champ Italy, host South Africa)

    JULY:
    Trip back to USA

    * 3 to 6 games in Gold Cup (once-per-two-year North/Central American tournament - the US have won 3 out of the last 4 Gold Cups)

    AUGUST:
    * 1 World Cup Qualifier - at Estadio Azteca, Mexico City. Another stadium that the USA has seen very little success - a single draw in 1997 the only positive result for the USA.

U.S. Soccer not so much... we should stick to what we call football and not mess with the real deal.

Major pwnage in San Jose...by the 'Ticos'.

    CRC 3-1 USA.

Costa Rica now leads the table with 9 points to the United States'  7.

@Romans_837 - Damn. Costa Rica is so small. We should be able to dominate them shouldn't we?

I'll stick with the MLS... and that's hard to do as it is... see you at the World Cup (IF we qualify)

My 9-year-old and I love watching soccer, esepecially when the World Cup is on. Thanks for posting this because now, I will be able to see when these will be televised so we can watch!

@dadj_21 - I expect the US to qualify...either 1st or 2nd in the hexagonal (4th/final round of qualifying in CONCACAF)

Costa Rica has had three home games -  won them all.  Lost at Mexico.
The United States has won both home games, had a draw and a loss on the road.

Losing in San Jose, Costa Rica is not the end...we've done it in the '90, '98, '02, and '06 campaigns and still qualified.

However, if the US loses or draws at home...then I'd start getting worried.

We've never won in Costa Rica. They play on turf, and supposedly the quality is worse than Giants Stadium. I think that hurt our touches very badly. Couple that with key players being very rusty (Beasley could not have played a worse game) and we just had no answer for them. Our defense was sitting on its heels while they dribbled around in the box.
